The Gemini Missions

The Gemini Missions taught us what we needed to know before Apollo. These two manned missions showed us how to dock in orbit, take space walks and the initial testing of long term space travel.

Some have said it was the first US real spacecraft.

Gemini Program This web site offers detailed information about what Gemini Missions there were, when they flew and who flew on them. Project Gemini was a transitional step between the pioneering Mercury Program and the actual landing a man on the moon. Its success was critical to achieving the goal of reaching the Moon and was not without its problems and difficulties.

Project Mercury NASA Information On May 25, 1961, three weeks after Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard became the first American in space, President John F. Kennedy announced the goal of sending astronauts to the moon before the end of the decade.
